Workday Student Admissions: Gaining Control of the College Application Deluge

Workday Student Admissions, developed with substantial input from more than 20 higher education institutions, helps admissions officers address the deluge of student applications.

Colleges and universities everywhere are struggling to manage too much of a good thing: student applications.

The number of applications flooding higher education institutions has grown steadily over the past 10 years, according to NACAC’s latest State of College Admission report. One of the big trends driving this increase is the ease of submitting applications online, with 92 percent of students now applying online. Students are doing all they can to hedge their bets, with 32 percent submitting at least seven applications before choosing a college.

This application deluge has created an inordinate amount of work for the admissions staff—culling through mountains of applications with associated essays, test scores, artifacts, and more. Admission teams are stretched thin and approaching the breaking point; higher education institutions must find a sustainable way to automate this labor-intensive process while helping admissions teams find the best applicants for their schools.

Admissions teams can easily capture, track, and score data from a prospect’s application and artifacts, college visits, recruiting event attendance, website visits, alumni relationships, and more.

Workday announced today that we are helping colleges and universities address this issue with Workday Student Admissions, which was developed with substantial input from more than 20 higher education institutions. It is the second application—along with Workday Student Recruiting—available as part of the Workday Student system.

With Workday Student Admissions, admissions teams can easily capture, track, and score data from a prospect’s application and artifacts, college visits, recruiting event attendance, website visits, alumni relationships, and more. Our design customers tell us they’re excited about this new application, and they have good reason to be. Most higher education administrative systems—including those some institutions have had for decades—are based on legacy technologies that weren’t designed to handle the enormous influx of applicants institutions face today.

Schools will see even more benefits from having an admissions application that’s fully unified with their Workday Financial Management and Workday Human Capital Management applications. For example, an institution can now easily align its admission counselors’ job performances to admission goals.

I applaud the ambition and resourcefulness of students using the power of the online application process in their favor to apply to many colleges and universities to find the right fit.

Now our higher education customers can have a solution that helps them adapt to the changing dynamics of the college application process. They can automate the bulk of their application processes and in turn, efficiently meet their enrollment goals. Most importantly, they can make the application decisions that support the success of their students well into the future.

If you have a minute, you can hear from customers who’ve partnered with us to develop our Workday Student applications.
